The Cause
"I am not allowed to swim, ski, ride a bike, play musical instruments, practice gymnastics or any other sport..." anonymous Muslim woman posted on a yahoo blog site.
In many Muslim societies, women are still denied the most basic human rights - rights that many of us take for granted. The simple pleasure of riding a bike, for instance, is highly restricted for women in some Muslim societies and completely forbidden in others. Despite this fact, brave Muslim women around the world have begun forming bicycle clubs as an expression of strength and solidarity.
Women's empowerment, seen in cases like these, is an underlying theme in Hassan Zee's film Bicycle Bride. As part of his passion and THE CAUSE of this film, Hassan Zee shows us the changing face of Muslim women in America - using the bicycle as a metaphor - and the transition Beena and women like her have and will continue to encounter, in hopes of encouraging others to be brave and become empowered!
WATCH the film - JOIN the cause - BE the change!
